- The president posted statistics from a Qanon supporter about Covid-19 not being nearly as much of a threat because most people who die from Covid-19 have other causes of death listed. Twitter took the Tweet down. This has become a common talking point of the right. It’s true that few death certificates list only Covid-19 as the cause of death. But that’s normal. Most death certificates list multiple causes. Aside from common comorbidities, often someone who dies from Covid-19 will have ailments CAUSED by the virus listed on their death certificate. It’s common for a death certificate to list both Covid-19 and ARDS. ARDS is the respiratory disorder caused by Covid-19.
- White House counsel Don McGahn wrote a letter to John Kelly pleading for Jared Kushner’s security clearance to be downgraded. Trump intervened to maintain Kushner’s top secret clearance. (That’s fully within his legal powers.)
- The DC Circuit Court in an en banc hearing denied Michael Flynn’s request to have his case thrown out in a 7-2 vote. Flynn pleaded guilty but then the Department of Justice withdrew the prosecution. Flynn’s lawyers are arguing the case must be thrown out despite his guilty plea.
- Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf blocked the release of an intelligence bulletin detailing a Russian scheme to promote allegations of Biden being in poor physical and mental health. This disinformation has been pushed by the right and even some on the left. The bulletin also warns that Russia will spread disinformation about mail-in voting, as the president has done. In an interview Attorney General Barr claimed a man in Texas had fraudulently filled out 1700 ballots. The investigation he was referring to found instead ONE invalid ballot. Barr lied.
- Former GOP Deputy Finance Chair Eliot Broidy is likely about to be charged by federal prosecutors soon. Broidy has been under investigation for fundraising activities surrounding Trump’s inauguration and foreign governments. (There are multiple investigations into the inauguratio
- The Trump campaign is doctoring photos and videos of Biden. They aged Biden in a photograph and digitally inserted him into a clip of an interview with Harry Belafonte to make it appear that Biden fell asleep during an interview. This comes the same week as Republican Steve Scalise doctored a video of Ady Barkin, who has ALS, and digitally inserted words spoken by Barkin’s voice synthesizer which he uses to speak. These frauds continued in person. Trump visited a store destroyed during unrest in Kenosha, WI and was filmed meeting with a man the campaign identified as the store owner. They lied. The store owner refused to meet with the president.
- Trump has denied the entirety of The Atlantic article detailing Trump denigrating US troops. In this denial he said he’s never called John McCain a loser. He lied. He has called McCain a loser on multiple occasions both on video and on Twitter. Former DHS official Miles Taylor became the first person to support part of the story on the record, confirming that Trump did not want flags lowered after McCain’s death.
